Dakota Lantz for School Board

I made this little website with a little bit of info about me and what I believe in since I found myself frustrated personally with the lack of information local election candidates have available. If you have any questions you don’t find on this page, feel free to contact me by my email found at the bottom of this page.

About Me
#

Hello! As the website says, I am running for school board this November. I am 26 and have been living in Waterford for the last 10 years. Ive been actively involved in working the elections here in Waterford for the last 8 years and believe civic involvement is a cornerstone of our community that is challenged by growing apathy among students and a large portion of young people. I grew up with my family working in schools and have immense respect for every member of a school that keeps it running and operational. I have no kids of my own, but I have a lovely little nephew that is starting at Haveland this year. I work as a paramedic for a private EMS company, and I help teach EMT students at a technical school. Education has always been important to me, as the foundation of our community.

School Board beliefs and reasons for running
#

Like everyone else, I have watched as school boards across the country use children as a means to advance their personal politics instead of doing what is in the best interest of improving education. To that end, I’m running to ensure that our schools follow the best practices set forward by experts in education, as well as the advice of our teachers and educators here in Waterford. I believe the banning of books in communities and school libraries is reprehensible, and the policies developed by librarians to handle books with challenging material should be trusted. Im running to be sure that that will not come to pass here. Our schools already have a strong emphasis on issues I consider of great importance, like our “Read by Grade Three” program. With our state falling further and further behind the curve nationally, I hope to strengthen and enforce programs like this to ensure that our students do not fall behind academically.
